Public Address Information - 2

The previous PA systems were designed for making announcements to all areas. Let's suppose that we want to play some background music to a workspace or public area, and have the ability to override the music when we make an announcement. This can be achieved easily by adding a music source (CD, radio, iPod) to the auxilliary input of our amplifier.

Background music with PA

We now have a background music and paging system (PA or Tannoy) which can provide effective communication at the same time as distributing music to a wide area. By choosing different types of loudspeaker we can provide suitable coverage for any areas, indoor or outdoor, quiet or noisy. Commercial loudspeakers designed for these applications are generally fitted with line transformers to make design and connection for such a system easier. These are generally known as 100v line speakers.
100v is a theoretical value based upon the system being driven flat out into a full load, it is not constant, in reality this is a high impedance system as opposed to a low impedance system (4/8 ohms). So don’t be fooled into looking for something that doesn’t exist! The voltage from the amplifier will vary with the
level and intensity of the signal being amplified.

Speakers must be wired in parallel to each other and the amplifier outputs (which are usually marked
Common & 100v). Speakers do not need to be wired back to the amplifier individually unless they are
wired into separate speaker zones.
